Farmers at Sylvester Manor on Shelter Island

Two pieces of News:
1) Ivo has arrived here on Shelter Island and already he has given us expert advice on managing Texel sheep on our property and setting up a cheese kitchen and cave in our buildings. He also used his great leverage (Ivo is very tall!) to help us prepare beds for planting specialty winter greens. He even sang a verse of a work song!
-That's him on the left, Andrew in the middle, and our other field apprentice Alex on the right.

2) Unfortunately I have recently learned that due to an important business meeting here at our farm next week, I can't go to Holland. But the exciting news is that Andrew Raymond, our able-bodied field apprentice, will go in my place. Andrew is new to farming this year, but he has a strong background in food and music, our twin passions at Sylvester Manor. He is as thoughtful as he is hard-working, and I'm excited to hear his reports about Texel sheep, windmills, and maybe even a visit to the neighborhood in Amsterdam where our farm began back in 1651.
-Andrew C. Raymond, Field Apprentice/Job Swapper, hard at work:

I'm really disappointed I can't go to Holland next week, but I hope to visit this winter to continue the relationship between our farm and Ivo's, and to restore the long-lost connection between Shelter Island and Texel Island. Until then Andrew and I hope to communicate about what he learns on his trip right here on the blog- he will be my eyes and ears! Here's to Andrew for saving the day!
