JOB SWAP HAS STARTED!
Sunday the 6th of September, the Dutch Job Swappers left for New York. The next day, on Labor Day, the Job Swap project really kicked off:
At 4 PM all the participants assembled in the lobby of the hotel where the Dutch job swappers stay and took a historical walk through New Amsterdam. The guide, a lawyer by profession, guided the group to places of Dutch origin: the former City Hall, the city wall, the fortress where they landed on the shores, ‘the bull’ on Wall Street, the old Dutch streets and many other places. The group was being followed by Vroege Vogels (‘Early Birds’- tv program), NOS (National Broadcasting Agency), AT5 (local Amsterdam tv-station) and our very own photographer:

After the walk, an introduction night was organized at the bar of one of the Swappers, Jimmy, with special Dutch beers being served. The organization welcomed everyone and all the participants got another opportunity to introduce themselves. After hearing everyone’s story, it become very clear: this is a great opportunity. Let the Job Swap begin!
There was an immediate click between many of the Swappers. The teachers already started planning their classes for Wednesday. The musicians directly started sharing their sources of inspiration as well as their expectations for the upcoming weeks. The fire fighters together went on a visit to New York’s oldest bar. And a the scoop of the day: the farmers are going to make Texel sheep cheese on Shelter Island, in order to convince the Americans of the delicacy of this product.
Today will be the first ‘day at the job’ for the Swappers. Read all about it on the various weblogs.
The Job Swap is an initiative of the Henry Hudson 400 Foundation and BKB, in cooperation with the NY400. The Wildcard contest is organized together with newspapers Het Parool (Amsterdam) and AM New York (New York).
